But as nice as it sounds, Marc Anthony‘s rep tells People.com that he and Jennifer Lopez are NOT reconciling. The meet-up was strictly a chance for Marc to get together and spend time with the couple’s 3-year-old twins, Max and Emme, who he hasn’t seen much since they split in mid-July. But will this confuse the twins? Experts give us their opinions.
“This is the right thing to do,” Dr. Jenn Berman, psychologist and author of Superbaby: 12 Ways to Give Your Child a Head Start in the First 3 Years, tells HollyBaby.com. “It’s very important for the kids to have a relationship with their father, for their future emotional decisions and the ability to have healthy relationships.”
And although Dr. Berman admits it will be confusing for Max and Emme to be together again as a family, she advises J.Lo and Marc to tell their twins that this is the “new normal” and that although they don’t live together anymore, they do and will spend time with each other.
Psychiatrist Dr. Carole Lieberman, author of Bad Girls: Why Men Love Them & How Good Girls Can Learn Their Secrets (www.badgirlsbook.com), agrees that this is a very confusing situation, but adds that she thinks Marc is using the kids to get closer to J.Lo in hopes of a reconciliation.
“At 3-years-old, Max and Emme are undoubtedly confused as to what their parents are up to,” she tells HollyBaby.com. “J. Lo and Marc Anthony may have told them the D-word, but it is impossible for the twins to understand what that really means — not just because of their age, but because their parents are obviously confused about their relationship.”
“It is strange that they made such a show of it — waving in a red convertible,” Dr. Lieberman adds. “It seems as though they were out to grab the publicity they knew they would get by sparking rumors of reconciliation. The problem is that Marc Anthony is using the twins as a way of getting close to J. Lo again, actually hoping for a reconciliation.”
Although both experts note that divorced couples often get together for the sake of their kids, Dr. Lieberman believes Marc’s true motive has to do with winning back his wife. Do you agree, HollyMoms?
